Devices and circuits
Outlet & Switch Installation in Centennial, CO
New receptacles, ground-fault protection, dedicated appliance circuits and switching that makes sense. Centennial, Englewood and the streets either side of University Boulevard.
The Small Jobs That Decide Whether a House Is Safe
Device work gets treated as trivial, which is exactly why so much of it is done badly. A receptacle pushed into a box on backstab connections will hold for a decade and then start heating at the contact. A kitchen counter served by one shared circuit will trip every time a kettle and a toaster coincide. A bathroom with no ground-fault protection is the single most common code deficiency we find in older Centennial homes.
Centennial Electric installs and corrects outlets, switches and circuits across Centennial and the south metro, and we treat a two-hundred-dollar device job with the same method as a service change, because the failure modes are the same and only the scale differs.
Houses around Willow Creek and Cherry Knolls commonly still carry original ungrounded receptacles; newer builds off Smoky Hill Road usually just need capacity added where a room has outgrown its circuit.
Device and Circuit Work We Handle
Small jobs, done to the same standard as the large ones.
- 1New receptacles where you actually need themAdded to an existing circuit where the load allows, or on a new run where it does not, rather than extending a circuit that is already at its limit.
- 2GFCI protection where the code requires itKitchens, bathrooms, garages, basements, crawl spaces, laundry areas and all exterior locations, installed at the device or at the breaker depending on what the circuit layout makes sensible.
- 3AFCI protection for living spacesArc-fault breakers on bedroom and living-area circuits, which is what the current code expects and what detects the loose, arcing connection a standard breaker never sees.
- 4Grounded replacements for two-prong outletsWhere a genuine equipment ground is available we install grounded receptacles; where it is not, we explain the compliant options rather than installing a three-prong device over an ungrounded box.
- 5Dedicated appliance circuitsRefrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, range, washer, dryer, freezer, sump pump and shop equipment given their own runs so they stop competing.
- 6Kitchen small-appliance circuitsThe two dedicated 20-amp counter circuits the code calls for, which most pre-1990s kitchens in this area do not have.
- 7Outdoor, weather-resistant receptaclesWet-rated devices in in-use covers, which is what the code requires and what survives a Colorado winter.
- 8Switch replacement and reconfigurationFailed switches, added three-way and four-way control, and separating a room onto zones that match how it is used.
- 9Dimmers, timers, occupancy sensors and smart switchesMatched to the load and, where the device needs one, installed on a circuit with a neutral at the box.
- 10USB and high-amperage charging receptaclesInstalled in the places people actually charge things, on circuits sized to carry them.
How Device Work Is Scheduled
Scope on the phone
Device work is predictable enough that we can usually price it before arriving. Tell us how many locations, which rooms, and whether the house has grounded wiring, and we can give you a close number and a realistic appointment window.
The visit
A licensed electrician arrives with the devices and the parts. We confirm what is in the boxes before committing to the approach, since an ungrounded circuit or an aluminium conductor changes the correct method. If what we find changes the price, we tell you before doing the work rather than after.
Testing, labelling and clean-up
Every device is tested under load, every GFCI is tripped and reset, polarity and grounding are verified with a tester you can watch, and anything we added goes onto the panel directory. Old devices and packaging leave with us.
Why Centennial Electric for Device Work
No backstabs, ever
Push-in back connections are permitted and they are also the single most common cause of the dead outlets we are called to repair years later. We terminate under the screw, every time, on every device we install.
We tell you what the code actually requires
Homeowners are frequently sold protection they do not need and left without protection they do. We will tell you which circuits genuinely require ground-fault or arc-fault protection in your house and which do not.
A small job is still a scheduled, licensed job
Two receptacles and a dimmer get a licensed electrician, a written price and the same warranty as a service change. There is no tier of our work where the standard drops.
